FLAT GREEN BOWLS 2005
by Eric Selby (your intrepid reporter)

On Thursday the 21st of July We were invited by the Parks Club to learn how to bowl. We, being VISTA and another visually impaired group called the RP society went along. There was nearly 30 of us who turned up at around 7.15pm. We had been having a heat wave till then and as you might have guessed the weather changed on that day. It turned out very cold but that didn't curtail our enthusiasm. There was around 20 Parks Club bowlers, who were there to help us.  I, and I'm sure all of us, would like to thank them very much for giving up their time to teach us how to bowl. I never realised how skilful bowling is.  I, of cause, took to it like a natural.  My bowl was touching the jack every time.  I, of cause, exaggerate a lot!!,ha ha. Bias to the left, bias to the right, line and length and weight were just a few of the words used by the bowlers. We finished on the green around 8.30pm as it was getting very cold. We went indoors then for refreshments. The club had laid on a lovely buffet which we had to eat as it would have been bad manners not to!! ha ha. The evening was a tremendous success and I am sure to be repeated soon, so keep looking at our web site for details.
