Coventry VISTA’s 2005 Garden Party
Reported by Janet Jenks
The weather forecasters said rain in the morning but clearing up around lunchtime. That was Saturday 2nd July 2006, the day of the annual VISTA garden party. For once they got it right!!
Around 1 pm some of the more able bodied members turned up at the resource centre to erect gazebos, put out banners, blow up balloons and start laying out food. Four o'clock saw VISTA members begin to arrive and take their places in the garden. We were hoping to see around forty people (for which the catering had been accounted) but only twenty five turned up. All I can say is that the non comers missed a treat.
The party was opened by Keith Hirons, our new chairman, who told everyone of all the future events which are to take place this year (keep a look out on the web site!) It was soon time to eat and what a magnificent spread once again, which had been prepared by Jean and Tricia - well done ladies I don't know how you do it! While we were all eating we were entertained by Vi Twineham on her keyboard with a much varied assortment of tunes. This was followed by Tommy Faulkner on his accordion, another very talented musician. Two mad ladies made fools of themselves by getting up and doing the "Birdie Dance" which was extremely entertaining, and this was followed by one or two tunes that we could all sing along to.
By seven o'clock one or two were ready to drift away so the raffle was drawn and the proceedings bought to a close. The weather had stayed fine, and everyone had enjoyed themselves.
A big thank you to all who made the Garden Party such a success.
As a club we are very lucky to have volunteers who are always ready to assists whenever and wherever help is needed. Names aren’t important but it is important to say “Thank you”, and that we are so lucky to have so many good people in Vista.
