Coventry VISTA’s 2007 Garden Party
Reported by Janet Jenks
30th June, just six days after Midsummer's Day but the weather was definitely "April showers". The forecasters had it right for once but that was no good for us. A garden party should be held outdoors but we had to make a decision early on and that was to hold the event inside the Day Centre.
Despite the weather 34 VISTA members plus a couple of visitors braved the elements and had a really good time. Trish and Jean worked very hard in preparing a simply delicious and varied spread. Doors opened at 5pm and shortly after Dave Franklin told everyone the programme and also about future events and rides that are to take place. At 5.30. we all began partaking of the wonderful food. There were both hot and cold dishes and a variety of sweets (or puddings) to follow, along with a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.
The entertainment was provided by the Paul Taylor singers who sang a medley of songs and also invited us all to join in with some. The singers had a short break for a drink half way through their performance and tea and coffee was served all round. During the break the raffle was drawn and then the singing continued. Around 9pm people started to leave for home. I think we can all say it was another successful event for VISTA - shame about the weather, but it didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. Many thanks to all who gave their time in making it all happen.
