GODIVAL FESTIVAL 2006
by Janet Jenks

The Godiva Festival was held in Coventry Memorial Park on the weekend of 15 & 16 July. The past few years we have had a stand to promote "Awareness of the VISTA Club".

This year we added a little extra by selling second hand books and bric-a-brac and we had a raffle with a deluxe hamper as the prize. We had collection boxes and we took the opportunity for two of our members to walk round the park rattling one of these boxes.

We also took along one of our tandems fixed to our turbo-trainer, so that members of the public could experience what it was like to pedal a bike.

The stall was manned on both Saturday and Sunday by members, both sighted and visually impaired.
Both days turned out to be very hot and the helpers wilted a little but the gazebo provided some well deserved shade. Because of the nice weather there were a lot of people in the park. At times the stand was very busy with people looking at our wares and we managed to sell quite a bit from the stall to help raise some additional funds for the club. We also got several names from people who would like to come and join VISTA.

It was a tiring weekend especially for those who worked on both days but it was a successful weekend for VISTA awareness and it raised much need funds.

See below for some pictures of our stand.
