QUIZ EVENING 2005
Another of our ever-popular quiz nights was held on the evening of 17 February 2005. Twenty seven members attended and were formed into five teams, "The Super Six", "Five Plus One on the Way" (get it? - Jeanette expecting!), "The Jacks", "The Prize Idiots", and "The Longford Crew". Irene Tideswell was our very able quizmaster. We started with a round of ten questions based on sport. I detected a definite bias towards football, about which I know next to nothing. This round appeared to cause quite a lot of head scratching especially as Irene got through this at quite a gallop! The next round comprised thirty-five general knowledge questions, ranging from soap opera to history. We then had the answers to these forty-five questions
A count revealed that "The Super Six" (my team!) were in the lead by three points. At this stage we adjourned the quiz for refreshments, which had all been prepared by Jean Selby and were jolly good. This was also the time to draw the raffle prizes. It was then time for the second half of the quiz, another twenty-five general knowledge questions. Despite valiant efforts from the other teams, "The Super Six" clung on to their lead and won by half a mark. They were awarded prizes for their victory.
I
must confess that I was absent for the second half as I was fixing
a couple of saddles on the new tandems so that they could accommodate
stokers, so it was really "The Super Five", who triumphed
in the second half. |
